CANONISATION OF BLESSED JOHN HENRY NEWMAN

All over the world, people are preparing to celebrate the Canonisation of Blessed John Henry Newman on Sunday 13th October; it will be a day of great historic and spiritual significance particularly for the Catholic Church in England and Wales. You can join in a Novena of Prayer to mark this Canonisation in a special way leading up to Saturday 12th October, the eve of the canonisation:

  • Fr Mark Naughton, parish priest of the Parish of St John the Baptist, Normanton, has produced a beautiful novena of prayer for his parish which specifically intercedes for “those living with or undergoing treatment for cancer in our parish and families”. Fr Mark had kindly given permission for this to be shared – you can download it here.
  • The Oratorian Fathers have also produced a novena booklet and resources. These can be found online at: https://www.newmancanonisation.com/novena. You can download the whole prayer booklet for the nine days, or request the Oratorians to send you a daily reminder email with the prayer for the day.
  • For more material on Newman, there is a website where you will find inspirational videos, podcasts and blogs with information on the Canonisation which is being run by Jack Valero of Catholic Voices and in conjunction with the Oratory Houses in England and Wales: www.newmancanonisation.com.
